From its brick streets, friendly folks and golden fields of wheat to its beautiful sunsets and star-filled nights, Goodland is a thriving and progressive community located in the wide-open prairies of Northwest Kansas.
Bordering Colorado on the west and just 32 miles south of Nebraska, Goodland is the cross roads of Interstate-70 and US Highway 27. Goodland is the county seat of Sherman County, which comprises some 1,055 square miles and more than 6,700 residents; nearly 5,000 of which live in Goodland. Just 192 miles from Denver, weekend trips to “the big city” or ski trips to the mountains are very convenient. Goodland’s airport, Renner Field, also provides access to travel and is equipped for small corporate jets with two lighted runways and an instrument landing system.
Goodland’s economy is supported by agriculture and ag related industries. The area’s wheat, sunflower, corn and soybean production is exported world-wide. The Goodland School District, USD352, serves Sherman County with three grade-based elementary schools, a junior high and a Class 4-A high school. Goodland is home to the Northwest Kansas Technical College, an innovative leader in the state’s education. The college provides certification in many fields including medical assistant and respiratory therapy.
This safe, caring community also offers many amenities which include a beautiful 18-hole golf course, new water park, interesting downtown shops, antique mall, movie theater, restaurants, arts center, activities center and museum. The Big Easel project made Goodland the home of the third painting in the van Gogh project. A steel easel stands 80 feet tall and features a reproduction of one of van Gogh’s seven sunflower paintings.
Also know as the “Topside of Kansas” because of its elevation at 3,689 feet, Goodland is the highest city in Kansas. Goodland is an ideal setting to raise a family, to be a part of a friendly and caring community, and to appreciate the natural beauty of western Kansas.
