Manhattan, known as the “Little Apple,” is located in the heart of the scenic Flint Hills and along the Kansas River. The community was noted as one of the Top 10 Places to Retire by Money Magazine. Manhattan is 125 miles west of Kansas City and is just off interstate I-70. The town’s current estimated population is 55,000 and is home to Kansas State University with 23,000 students and Fort Riley with 15,000+ soldiers.

Local attractions include Tuttle Creek Lake with 15,000 acres of boating, water-skiing, fishing and public hunting land; the Konza prairie Tallgrass Preserve; Marianna Beach Art Museum; the historic Aggieville shopping district; world class golf facilities and an Arts in the Park series.

Fort Riley, founded in the mid-1800s and one of the largest and oldest military bases in the United States, is located approximately 10 minutes from the hospital. The military reservation covers approximately 101,000 acres.

Manhattan offers excellent education as well. Manhattan High School was recognized by ACT as one of 382 high schools across the country whose students have shown greater-than-average increases in scores on the ACT Mathematics or Science Tests. The high school was selected as the number one school in Kansas by Sports Illustrated magazine based upon the success enjoyed by the students who compete in the many athletic programs.

More than 50 churches, representing 35 denominations, are in Manhattan as well as two parochial schools and the Manhattan Christian College.
