Whether you are looking for a place to work, spend the day shopping, explore historical sites, or raise a family, Scott City has it all. The surrounding country offers a sense of community, a commitment to service, cutting edge amenities, and an easier, slow-paced lifestyle—all of which come together in one of Southwest Kansas most picturesque locales.

Scott City is located in western Kansas, just 62 miles from the Colorado border. Highly accessible, Scott City is 40 miles south of Interstate 70 and has an airport with approximately 25 based aircrafts and a full service fixed base operator (FBO). The clean bustling downtown and thriving business community are inviting to visitors and residents alike. The local officials diligently work to ensure Scott City remains strong and progressive. Top notch schools, terrific youth and adult programs, and a safe environment attract families to this growing area.

Diverse recreation department activities range from traditional sports like basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball and baseball to mini triathlons, and dunk ball. Golfers often relax on the 9-hole course on the north edge of Scott City. Thirty acres of city property include five city parks and a beautiful downtown steetscape. Features at various parks include playground areas, a municipal swimming pool, tennis courts, picnic areas, a skate park, sledding hill and ball fields. The uniquely designed equipment at “Park in the Plains,” has a cattle car, tractor, adobe entry, buffalo climbing wall, cattle wall, grain elevator, old west stage, multiple slides and a tree house to name a few.

Museums, galleries and monuments in Scott City are rich in history and culture. The unique museum, El Quartelejo, houses fossil remains of the inland sea over 80 million years ago through modern day agriculture. The Jerry Thomas Art Gallery and Collection takes visitors on an artistic journey into the history, wildlife, and beauty of the old west. The Keystone Gallery is an extensive museum with a scientific collection of local Kansas fossils, including a 20-foot Mosasaur and 14-foot Xiphactinus. The Steele Homestead, a turn of the century home, has been preserved as a museum at Lake Scott Park and Wildlife Area.

The storied past on the frontier is revealed in the state and national landmarks near Scott City. Native American pueblo ruins built in the 1600s, named El Cuartelejo, fascinate visitors. Another monument, overlooking a cave and bluffs is Battle Canyon, where the last Indian battle in Kansas was fought.

Just outside Scott City is a picturesque oasis in the high plains, Lake Scott Park and Wildlife Area. It was named one of the 50 must see state parks by National Geographic Magazine. Hidden within a western Kansas prairie, the park is a startling oasis of natural springs, deep wooded canyons and craggy bluffs. A 100 acre lake is nestled among the picturesque hills. Rich in history and scenic splendor, Lake Scott State Park and Wildlife Area provides a perfect recreational setting for boating, year-round fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding and wildlife observation. Public hunting is allowed on the 160 acres of designated wildlife area west of the park.

The rich history of the community and the beauty of Scott City are woven with friendly folk in an ideal location, making a tapestry that can only be described as, “An Exceptional Way of Life!”
