"Good crops…Great families" is the sign that greets you as you drive into Hoxie from the north, south, east or west. It is an apt description of this progressive agricultural community. Old fashioned values where even your neighbor is considered your family and not just a friend is the norm in Hoxie. Neighbors helping neighbors is demonstrated in so many ways but particularly in the community benefits for those less fortunate. The generosity is amazing for such a small community.

Hoxie has a population of 1147 and is the county seat of Sheridan County, founded in 1880. A new children’s park was completed with donations in 2007. A nine-hole golf course, tennis court, baseball diamond, movie theater and a walking park are some of the recreation facilities available. A community wellness center is being built at the present time.

Sheridan County Fair

Some of the civic organizations are Rotary, Scouts, Hospital Auxiliary, Chamber and Go Sheridan Team. The home owned carnival was started in 1982 and serves over 10,000 people during fair week.

Sheridan County Lake and the Cottonwood Ranch State Historical site are some of the attractions east of town. Cottonwood Ranch was built in the 1880s and consists of a late nineteenth century sheep ranch.

Several businesses in town are 3rd generation businesses. Mahanna Pharmacy has an old fashioned soda fountain. Hoxie Implement established in 1962 and Taylor Implement are two of the largest employers. Hoxie Implement was named as one of the top ten selling dealers for Case IH Combines in North America for 14 years in a row. Hoxie Feedlot established in 1969 with a 10,000 head lot and has now more than 40,000 head.

World class turkey, pheasant, dove, quail and deer hunting are all available in the area. The opening weekend of pheasant season finds Hoxie doubled or tripled in population.

Young and old work together for the common good and for the future of Sheridan County.
